CHARRANCITO COMÚN ( Sternula albifrons )

 Es pequeño comparándolo con otros charranes, mide entre 22 a 24 cms. Por su tamaño y las plumas blancas en la frente es difícil confundirlos. El plumaje en los adultos en verano en la espalda es gris pálido y la parte inferior blanco y la cola es mas bien corta y ahorquillada. El pico estrecho y puntiagudo, amarillo anaranjado y la punta negra. Las patas también amarillas. Presenta un casco negro en la cabeza hasta la nuca, salvo en la frente. En invierno la mancha blanca de la frente es mas visible, el pico se vuelve negro y las patas con amarillo menos intenso. Cría en costas y como en nuestro caso en humedales, la orilla de una gravera la defienden con ataques a otras aves que intenten invadir sus dominios. Se alimenta de peces, crustáceos e insectos. Pesca lanzándose en picado al agua para atrapar los peces. Crían en colonias, excavan un pequeño agujero entre la grava donde deposita entre 2 y 4 huevos. Es común verlos en nuestros humedales muy cerca de Badajoz capital. Fotos hechas con hidrohide ( aguardo flotante ) a mediados de junio.
