I had not talked to a friend for a long time, Carlos called me, he had offered to enter his farm with my task of photographing birds, which is a big thank you, I passed the time and I called him, his response was fast, If I have something for you ???, a great group of Cranes are eating me the sow !!!, so you already know where you have to continue working. Question of not missing a minute. So I started this year with this very attractive species.
It was a hard task, first because I had never worked them, I do not know their wishes, I had to find out how, where and when they are in each place. It has been more difficult than I thought, these Cranes are not ideas or fixed customs, today pose here, tomorrow there, past there, a whole unknown. I began to mount my waiting relatively close to the sleeping lagoon, but without even disturbing them, I was at a safe distance. This information is fundamental, know where they sleep, because from there sooner or later they will go to one place or another, it was not difficult for me to find this place because at the fall of the sun flocked large sides to the water. Days I was riding the waiting for that place without positive results, they flew farther, sometimes I lost sight of them. One morning that I arrived a little late they were already taking off from the pond, things of the destination, I could see that they were standing very close, about 300 or 400 meters in a great plain, piles of Cranes posing there with their great racket, with their necks in Form of great trumpet pointing to the sky and emitting its song, something to remember eternally, and there near where I was. I knew where I should wait for them, when the big band stretched completely and pecked some food began to take off slowly until I was alone. I went to an olive tree that is solitary, there in the middle of the great plain of many hectares. Quickly I took the old branches of pruning that had been left under the tree, I placed them around the trunk, I made a completely natural wait, I left a space inside enough for me, and that's where I could photograph the first common Crane. Paradoxically, the days of dense fog are when they settled in this place, perhaps for fear of flying and accidents with poles, electric lines, trees, buildings, etc., etc. Of course the light at those hours so early, 8:00 am, for photography and with dense fog little thing can be done. Even so, something good to get out of the place. A few more days later I set up another fixed waiting near a stream, many sessions without a single photo for home, despite having been there hiding all day, from seven in the morning until dark by the fall of the sun and I remain Dark I have also had days of glory, and I brought the memory cards with very good photographs. But it has cost me enough, one day to have it less than two meters in front of me not to appear throughout the day. Many images recorded in the memory of so many Cranes before me. All this quite close to Badajoz capital.
